Ice Industries' Oil Pan Takeover / Launch Project Honored by Cummins

SYLVANIA, Ohio – August 26, 2010 – Deerfield Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Ice Industries, has been recognized with a 2010 Chairman's Quality Award from Cummins, Inc. This award traditionally recognizes the top tier of projects selected by Cummins from a pool of more than 3,000 projects, which are annually submitted for consideration.

The project involved the takeover of 17 B-Series engine parts from the incumbent supplier, requiring top quality manufacturing within a tight timeframe, to avoid interruption of Cummins' production processes. Following Six Sigma best practices, and led by Deerfield's team of Black and Green Belts, Ice was able to avoid any production interruption.

These customer-oriented best practices are followed throughout Ice Industries' five locations in the USA and Mexico. Ice’s high quality metal stamping, metal forming, welding, and assembly can be found in multiple markets, including: automotive; appliance; HVAC; commercial, heavy truck, military & off-highway vehicles; filtration; fire & safety; and alternative energy.

"It is a pleasure to work with a customer such as Cummins, who is dedicated to high quality and dependable delivery of their product, and takes the time to recognize the efforts and importance of their suppliers when successful. The award is greatly appreciated because it recognizes our team's accomplishments, executed with effort and sacrifice, during a very difficult situation for our customer. Considering over 3,100 projects were submitted for award selection, I am very proud of our team,” stated Travis Hearn, Deerfield Manufacturing's General Manager.

"Ice has a strong heritage of manufacturing complicated deep draw, welded assemblies which must withstand the rigor of harsh field conditions and tight manufacturing tolerances. Our expanded capacity at our Mason, Ohio plant for the manufacture of oil pans emphasizes our commitment to this market, and our dedication to quality and delivery," added Paul Bishop, President and COO of Ice Industries.

Deerfield Manufacturing's and Ice Industries' outstanding performance on this project has been reinforced with the sourcing of additional oil pan business.
