Ice Industries Enters Heavy Vehicle Oil Pan Market with New Investment in Mason, Ohio

SYLVANIA, Ohio – October 7, 2009 – Ice Industries, a leading metal stamping, welding and assembly company, announced recently that it has begun production of heavy duty oil pans for two major heavy vehicle engine manufacturers. Ice manufactures oil pans which are used in various medium, heavy duty and off-highway applications. In addition to deep drawn cold rolled material, oil pans are also being manufactured using special coated and laminated materials.

Ice is manufacturing these new products on a large tandem press line that was refurbished, updated and installed at Ice’s Deerfield Manufacturing facility in Mason, Ohio in 2007. The lead-off press operates at 900 tons, while the four presses that round out the new tandem line are at 500 tons. Beyond the deep draw stampings, Ice is also responsible for installing heater assemblies, welding drain plugs and fittings, and painting many of the finished oil pan assemblies. The pans are subject to exacting quality requirements, which will be augmented with weld inspection, cut and etch, leak testing and CMM capabilities. Ice Industries’ Deerfield Manufacturing is TS 16949 certified.

“The transfer of these dies and this production required a herculean effort on the part of Ice Industries’ Deerfield Manufacturing team. We have always been known for our ability to deal with unknown issues which inevitably surface with complicated die transfers. In the current economic environment we expect that the robust tool transfer skills we have developed will continue to provide opportunities for Ice,” said Paul Bishop, Ice Industries’ President.

“It is important that our existing and new customers have confidence in the long-term viability of the company they are choosing for distressed die transfers or supplier consolidation, and Ice has worked hard to develop a diversity of customers and markets to create operational security for our customers,” said Howard Ice, Ice Industries’ founder and CEO.

In addition to heavy duty vehicular oil pans, Ice Industries also recently announced its entrance into the heavy duty air tank market, and is in the process of installing automated rolled and welded tank lines at its facility located in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
